Modular battery systems
Together with our partners in the DEUTZ Group, we have specialized in the development and production of customized battery systems. We follow a modular approach and combine existing and validated hardware and software components to create individual battery systems. For our customers we configure and deliver batteries from the modular E-DEUTZ kit or develop individual solutions.
The basic building blocks of any battery development are the BMS, the cell modules and a housing suitable for the application. We combine our self-developed modular battery management system with the battery modules we have carefully selected and tested. This results in a perfect basis for a battery construction kit from which customer-specific batteries from 48V to 1000V with scalable capacity can be assembled.
Each module we use has been carefully examined in advance and all technical parameters have been agreed with the suppliers. This enables us to ensure perfect integration into the battery system and maximum safety and performance for modules from a wide range of manufacturers. Due to the cooperation with various module manufacturers and almost standardized module sizes, we can react quickly to market developments as required. The installed modules and cells comply with current automotive, commercial vehicle and machine standards and meet the highest safety and performance requirements.
In addition, we offer a wide range of already developed and tested batteries, which can also be combined in a modular way.
E-DEUTZ battery kit
The E-DEUTZ battery kit is a modular and scalable battery system that can be adapted flexibly, quickly and cost-effectively to individual customer requirements. Mechanical dimensions and in particular the software connection and functionalities are adapted to suit the customer’s application.
The battery housing of the E-DEUTZ kit, which is scalable in length and height, is extremely resistant to mechanical shocks and vibrations, and is also protected against water and dust. A cooling option in the intermediate levels is already integrated in the concept.
Based on the PHEV2 form factor of the cell modules, different module configurations can be mapped to best match the voltage position and battery capacity for the customer application. The cell modules can be provided with NMC or LFP technology. A battery level can contain up to six PEHV2 cell modules in series – this determines the length of the battery. Depending on customer requirements, up to 4-5 levels can then be placed on top of each other. Due to the different interconnection possibilities, a multitude of variants regarding voltage and capacitance is possible.
Another advantage of the modular construction system is an easy-to-integrate cooling system, here the bottom plates of the levels are used as cooling plates.
The modules shown in the picture are examples, but can be customized upon customer request, as there are many other variants of the modules.
Battery systems ready for series production
If customer requirements cannot be mapped with the E-DEUTZ modular system, we naturally also offer individual battery developments. As part of our development activities, we have already been able to put some batteries into series production. Examples that can also be used for other customers can be found here.
EloPower 35
The EloPower 35 is a battery based on NMC cell technology for bus and commercial vehicle applications, developed according to the highest safety standards of ISO26262.
It is suitable for heavy duty areas, as it is designed with a very robust housing.
Customized battery solutions
Due to the diversity of applications for battery systems, not every application can be covered even with a modular approach. For this reason, we offer to develop your battery concept from scratch. We accompany you along the complete development process, starting with the product idea/concept as well as the hardware development, the prototype production and its testing up to the product ready for serial production.
Various competencies and experiences are incorporated into the concept development for battery systems. Thus, we first analyze your application, and thus determine the resulting requirements for the energy storage system. When selecting modules, we can draw on our experience and our network of suppliers. This is followed by pack development with material selection and mechanical design, as well as hardware and software development, which includes not only the BMS but also the wiring harness and the integration of communication interfaces. All steps are carried out by us with special consideration of cost and production aspects.
Thus, we are able to develop highly specialized prototypes and series products. Finally, together with our partners, we carry out the required tests such as the transport test according to UN 38.3 or ISO 26262 (state of the art standard for functional safety) as well as other application-specific tests in compliance with the test specification for lithium-ion traction battery systems and battery subsystems.
Thanks to our modular product and software architecture, we can design a customized solution for you based on our existing product portfolios in a very short time and deliver it as a prototype or in series. Due to our existing components, we are able to deliver a first functional prototype in only 6-8 weeks. This means that integration development can be started very quickly on the system side and the time-to-market can be reduced.
